Privacy Policy
At a glance
- Your files are never uploaded. Bills, statements and results are processed and stored only in your browser.
- No accounts, no cookies, no advertising.
- We count visits anonymously to see how many people use the site, without identifying you.
- You can delete everything at any time from your browser.
1. Who we are
This policy covers Catchfold, a free bill-checking tool available at catchfold.com (the "Service"). "We" and "us" refer to the person who operates the Service.
2. Information that stays on your device
When you add a file, it is read by code running in your browser. The following is stored in your browser's storage on your device, in your browser profile, and is not sent to us:
- Your files and results: the rows read from your bills and statements, the items found, and your answers and notes, saved in IndexedDB.
- Demo activity: your answers on the sample invoices, also saved in IndexedDB.
- Preferences: small settings in localStorage and sessionStorage, such as which columns you matched, whether the intro has played, the guided-tour step, and the W-9 and insurance ticks on your contractor list.
Supported files include CSV, Excel (.xlsx) and bank downloads (.qfx, .ofx, .qbo). Their contents are never part of any request to us.
3. Information we receive
- Anonymous visit counts. We use Vercel Web Analytics, which does not use cookies. It records the page visited, the referring site, country, browser and device type, and identifies a visit only by a temporary hash that Vercel discards after 24 hours. The part of an address after
#, where the app keeps its views, is removed before anything is sent. No file contents, rows or results are ever included. - Feedback you choose to send. If you submit the feedback form or the "Where Catchfold is going" choices, your answers, and your email address only if you enter one, are sent to a Google Form. We use them to improve the Service and, if you gave an email, to reply or let you know about new features.
- Hosting logs. Like most websites, our host Vercel may keep standard server logs, such as IP address, time and page requested, when your browser loads the site's files.
4. AI model download
To match names (for example a bank line "SQ *ACME SUPPLY" to the supplier Acme Supply), your browser may download a small public AI model (all-MiniLM-L6-v2, about 23 MB) from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) the first time it is needed, and keep it in its cache. The model then runs on your device. Only the model files are downloaded; none of your information is sent to Hugging Face. If the download fails, matching uses name words only.
5. Cookies and tracking
Catchfold does not set cookies and does not use advertising or cross-site tracking.
6. Service providers
- Vercel: website hosting and anonymous visit counts.
- Google: the feedback form (Google Forms).
- Hugging Face: the public AI model file.
Each provider handles information under its own privacy policy. We do not sell or share your information for advertising.
7. Deleting your information
- On Your files, choose "Delete my data". This erases your files, results, answers, matched columns and contractor ticks from this browser. The sample demo is separate.
- Or clear this site's data in your browser settings to remove everything, including preferences.
- To remove feedback you sent, contact us through the feedback form and tell us what to delete.
Because your files are never on our servers, we cannot recover them for you once deleted.
8. Children
The Service is meant for businesses and adults managing their own finances. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the effective date above.
